Windows server 2003 scheduled tasks do not run

When I run the "schtasks" command from the command line, all of the tasks are shown with a status of "Could not start". The tasks that I want to run on a scheduled basis are both ".

Unfortunately, the procedure didn't resolve the issue - the behavior remains unchanged. I have a rebootdaily. It worked well and just yesterday it says missing some dll file. I right click the task and pick run, it game me the msg but not run. I didn't remember the missing dll and it simply ignore me and not report the missiing dll anymore.

For the task I have tried both the vbs file and also a bat file containing the reference to the vbs file. Both run when I'm logged and both fail to complete successfully when I'm not.

The system cannot find the file specified. More information, I added several Wscript. Echo statements to my script, before the first line, after the FOR loop and before the " copyFile " command.

Echo output. This would see to indicate that it can not find my vbs file when I'm not logged on. Still no happiness here. I moved and modified the. As before I get output to both.

I'll fiddle with the antivirus settings, but I need to ask about that first. We are using Symantec SEP. First off we would like to thank LeeHarvey1 for his time and suggestions as we searched for the cause of this issue. In the end it was one of his suggestions that fixed the problem, but we still have no idea what caused it.

A reboot of the system cleared up all of the issues surrounding the task scheduler and running VB Scripts! We had considered his early suggestion, but discounted it as this server had only been up for a little over 3 months.

Not excessive in our experience. However, when all else failed we elected to do that and "voila" it fixed the issue. We wish we knew what caused it but are now just happy we can move on to other things. Stack Overflow for Teams — Collaborate and share knowledge with a private group.

Administrators can configure security services such as Service for Users S4U and CredMan, depending on whether the task requires remote or local resources. S4U relieves the need to store passwords locally on the computer, and CredMan, though it requires that passwords be updated once per computer, automatically updates scheduled tasks configured to run for the specific user with the new password.

Enter the new world of Session 0 Isolation. Well, running user apps and services in this session posed a security risk because services run at elevated privileges and can be targets for malicious code. Enter the new and improved Task Scheduler that uses Session 0 isolation. Only system processes and services now run in Session 0. The first user who logs onto a machine does so in Session 1. Subsequent users log into Session 2, 3, 4, etc.

Doing this isolation protects services and system processes from tasks ran in this session. At this point, we need to determine if there is a simple workaround to get your task to run, or determine if the application vendor needs to be engaged. With this option selected, my task will only run if I am logged on with my WillyP account.
