Windows 7 black screen pointer only

Black screen Nothing works to make the screen or any other part of windows visible. To further verify that my windows 10 actually logged in behind the black screen, I tapped the windows key and then clicked the cursor in the lower right corner where I estimated the power icon would be if I were to actually be able to see I then hit the up arrow once and selected enter on the keyboard, the system rebooted; if I do the same thing after the reboot, but hit the up arrow twice, the system shuts down.

Unfortunately, I had not enabled the function to allow me to boot into safe-mode. Left panel select "choose when to turn off the display". From there, you can select "1minute" to "never". Notice you can do the same with sleep button. Point is you can think you are in sleep when you are not.

Your screen display is just turned off. I read this answer on another thread and it worked for me today so I will paraphrase. I had a 64x Vista which I upgraded to a 64x Windows 7. I was trying to fix another problem and finally tried to do a restore point pre several operating feature un-installs. Start computer with DVD in place. First page that comes up shows Boot F12 in upperR corner. Be sure to save before exiting with ESC X 2. Continue start by selecting F1 for start.

Wait for message to come up that "says select any button to boot from CD. YOu have to be fast or it does not load Widows 7. Do that. Wait a couple of minutes for message to start load of Windows 7. Window panel for selection of install comes up. Do not install but select the repair option in bottom left corner.

Wait some more. Panel comes up with four options. I selected the "start with" option first time I tried it. That did not work for a final solution. So, I did it all over and selected the the second button for "restore from" point. OS windows t cecked and next. It all works now! Be sure to go back to F12 when finished and select Bios "default selection" and save.

Otherwise, it passes all other tests the onboard diagnostic utility has including, memory tests, fan tests, hard drive tests, etc. I have not, however, tried a full system restore yet. From what I've read in several forums, many have tried this in similar situations and still had the same problem. I hope I've been thorough enough to allow you to help me without wasting any of your time, and I thank you in advance. Without the correct driver, the hardware or device that you want to use won't work properly. To confirm the same, start the Computer in low-resolution video mode.

This starts Windows using your current video driver and using low resolution and refresh rate settings. This option is available in Advanced startup options. To start you computer in low-resolution video mode, follow the steps below: 1.

Press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. If the problem doesn't reappear in low-resolution mode, then the issue is driver related. You can resolve this by downloading display card driver from the manufacturer's website. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. I tried starting the computer in low-res mode, but the same thing happened: the Windows logo comes up, then the black screen with a centered mouse cursor.

I can move the cursor, but clicking does nothing and the pressing the keyboard keys doesn't do anything either. So there is no confusion, the screen is entirely black, with the exception of the mouse cursor. There is no task bar, no icons, nothing.

A completely black screen. I looked at the link to "Why is my screen black All the issues there assume one has some sort of interface with Windows once it boots. Again, I just get the black screen, nothing else. In the link, where people have a black screen, all the suggested fixes tell people to click on the task bar, or start in safe mode, or run regedit.

I can't do any of those things with the computer in the state that it's in right now. What it does: The PC turns on like normal.
