Vmware fusion windows not shutting down

I used the link provided by Jimi kthanxbai above and it worked great. Thank you! My XP VM was hanging on the shutdown screen. Then when I followed the link he provided to get more detailed information, I was able to "power off" the VM with no trouble at all. This will cause the options on the drop down "Virtual Machine" menu to change.

Click on 'Power off' to fix the problem. I had some difficulty trying to hold the menu down, depress the 'option' key, click on 'power off' but once I did those things in succession, the problem was cleared instantly. Press and hold down the Option Alt key. In Fusion 2. It sounds like it may possibly be a corrupted VM. I do NOT know which processes you would need to kill.

If so, I would try another "copy" of your VM. Have you made any configuration changes to your VM lately? In the future I would clone that sucker when it's working great then you will always have something to fall back on when stuff like this occurs. Sign up to join this community. I'm guessing since you're running setup64 that you're running the bit Windows edition, but can you confirm? Thanks for posting this, I was wondering where to find that es driver.

Yes, I've been looking for the driver for ages too! I didn't realize I could extract it from VMware tools like this. Plus there's the problem and solution I describe in my answer below.

Easiest workaround is to shutdown the guest OS in the VM rather than suspend it, though changing the config as my answer recommends is pretty easy, too. In short, Fusion's code base derives from a server environment where one server is running many, many virtual machines which all are using the same OS.

That code base implements several strategies to allocate less host memory to an individual VM than the VM thinks it needs. These settings turn those strategies off, which is a good thing for Fusion where you're typically running only one VM at a time. In particular, sched. I've asked VMware to make these settings the defaults for Fusion, but I'm not holding my breath. Until then, I manually add them to every VM I create, because, unfortunately, putting these changes in user- or system-wide config files seems not to have any effect.
